Overview

The Fiber Construction Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising crews in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks. This includes both aerial and underground construction. The foreman ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

Project Preparation & Planning

· Review job folders, blueprints, and project specifications.

· Coordinate with project managers and schedulers to plan work.

· Ensure all permits, safety documentation (JHA, toolbox talks), and equipment are ready before site arrival.

Crew Leadership & Supervision

· Assemble and lead a crew of technicians and laborers.

· Assign tasks based on skill levels and project needs.

· Train and mentor crew members on construction methods and safety practices.

· Monitor daily progress and adjust plans as needed.

Construction Oversight

· Supervise installation of fiber optic cables (aerial and underground).

· Operate or oversee use of equipment such as directional drills, excavation machinery, vacuum truck/trailer, fiber blowers, cable pullers, and splicing tools.

· Ensure proper documentation of pre-construction and post-construction activities.

· Conduct quality checks and troubleshoot issues on-site.

Safety & Compliance

· Enforce safety protocols and conduct daily safety briefings.

· Inspect work sites for hazards and ensure use of PPE.

· Maintain a clean and organized job site.

Communication & Reporting

· Serve as the primary contact for technical and construction issues.

· Interface with customers, property owners, and inspectors.

· Provide daily production reports and updates to project managers.

· Track crew time, equipment usage, and material inventory.

Qualifications

Qualifications

· 5+ years of experience in fiber optic or utility construction.

· Prior supervisory experience required.

· Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).

· Ability to read and interpret construction plans and prints.

· Strong knowledge of fiber optic installation techniques and safety standards.

· Excellent communication and organizational skills.

· Willingness to travel and work in various weather conditions.


Preferred Skills:

· Direction Drilling experience.

· Excavation / Earthmoving experience.

· Fiber splicing and testing experience.

· Familiarity with underground and overhead utility construction.

· Experience with ADSS cable installation and energized space work.

· Proficiency in using construction management software or mobile apps

· Proficiency in using web based email, Adobe and Microsoft Products
