General Summary

The Lead Pharmacy Technician position is a blend of responsibilities including, but not limited to: Intake, navigation, scheduling, and dispensing. This role encompasses training in all areas of UCA Specialty Pharmacy relevant to a prescription order. Navigation, being the more weighted responsibility, requires attention to prescription rejections and resolutions concerning a prescription. This includes, but is not limited to patient, payer, and provider communication concerning an order, prior authorization, billing, and/or financial assistance requests. The Team Member must have the ability to steward prescriptions through the cycle while maintaining proper communication with all involved parties. In order to complete this task effectively, this employee must have an understanding of prescription data entry, payer, and PBM relationships. This individual must also serve an administrative role to assist physician assistants/nurse practitioners.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must have an active Pharmacy Technician license issued by Alabama Board of Pharmacy, PTCB certification, free of any discipline, and attend any CPU’s required to maintain license/certification.
  2. Must have the ability to steward prescriptions through the ordering cycle while maintaining proper communication with all involved parties, internal and external to UCA.
  3. 2 years prior experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy.
  4. Must display advanced reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  5. Computer Literacy – 40 words per minute at 95% accuracy
  6. Must show the ability to work independently and within a team exhibiting strengths in communication and response to feedback
  7. Must show proficiency in use of a variety of office equipment including a PC, Windows, MSOffice, EMR system, copier, facsimile machine, etc.
  8. Must show the ability to maintain confidentiality, including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines.
  9. Must maintain professionalism in all aspects of role including but not limited to appearance, communication, and timeliness. 

Licensure, Certification, Registration Requirements

Must have an active Pharmacy Technician license issued by Alabama Board of Pharmacy, PTCB certification, free of any discipline, and attend any CPU’s required to maintain license/certification.

Supervisory Requirements

Supervision of other pharmacy technicians, leading both by example and through communication of direct expectations to achieve goals set forth by Pharmacy Leadership.  Ability to remedy deficit in performance of other technicians through education and training.
