Summary/objective
- The IU Kokomo athletic trainer will assist with day-to-day on-site medical care for the IU Kokomo athletes.

- Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including but not limited to first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing and implementing rehabilitation and prevention programs
- Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies
- Develop and implement on-field return to play protocols
- Documentation of all athlete injuries in the appropriate electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills required to work effectively with athletes, coaches, team personnel, family members, and event organizers
- Communicate with physicians, physical therapists, and other athletic trainers regarding the injury status of athletes
- Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations
- Assist ordering inventory supplies and equipment
- Comply with OSHA standards regarding blood borne pathogens
- Play an active role in creating a professional environment within the academy through athlete interactions, maintaining the standard, and driving club culture
- Responsible for administration and other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Sport assignment for athletic trainers is fluid and decided on by the athletic training staff
Competencies (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities)
- Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to represent Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics and Indiana University Kokomo in a professional manner, as this position is performed in public settings.

Work environment
IU Kokomo athletics are an NAIA program within the River States Conference. Sports consist of soccer, volleyball, cross country, track and field, golf, basketball, baseball, tennis, and Esports. Athletic competitions, practices, and workouts are hosted at but not limited to the Student Activities and Events Center (SAEC), Kokomo Municipal Stadium, and the Cole Fitness Center. The athletic training facility is housed in the SAEC.

Athletic Trainers will be exposed to various weather conditions related to indoor and outdoor sports. This position is year-round with early and late hours required throughout the week and on weekends. Work obligations may also fall on holidays.
Physical demands
Work is medium demand. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel required
- Travel to away athletic competitions is not required but athletic trainer may choose to travel if requested and all onsite events have appropriate coverage. This should be communicated to the athletic trainer with reasonable notice. Athletic trainers typically travel to post season championships.
Required education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree required in athletic training from a CAATE-recognized school and a valid state athletic training license
- Current credentialing through BOC & CPR Certified
Preferred education and experience
- Experience working in intercollegiate athletic training, simultaneous care of athletic teams, and coordinating the coverage of multiple sporting events
- Experience working in a fast-paced work environment
- Master’s Degree preferred
- 0-3 years of experience
