Assistant Director - Winter Musical

Position: Assistant Director
Production: Hadestown: Teen Edition

Location: Alexandria, VA
Reports To: Director of Theater & Director of Technical Theater
Compensation: $2,000 stipend

Overview:
The Episcopal Theater Program is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Assistant Director to join the creative team for this year's Winter Musical: Hadestown: Teen Edition. This position offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of educators and student performers in a professional yet supportive educational theater environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting the Director of Theater with artistic and creative decisions

• Working directly with student actors during rehearsals to support character development and performance

• Recording and maintaining accurate blocking notes and production documentation

• Coordinating with the Director of Technical Theater on logistical and technical needs

• Supporting general organization and communication with high school students

• Assisting with scheduling, rehearsal flow, and production preparation

• Performing additional production-related duties as assigned

Schedule:

• Rehearsals start: December 2

• Regular rehearsals: 4:00–6:00 PM, Mon-Friday

• Technical rehearsals: February 7 & 8

• Extended rehearsals: February 9–12

• Performances: February 13, 14, & 15

Ideal Candidate:

• Has experience working with high school students or in educational theater settings

• Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

• Brings positivity, flexibility, and creativity to the rehearsal process

• Is passionate about storytelling, ensemble work, and fostering student growth through the arts
