Overall Responsibility:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs tasks to assist nursing personnel in the pre and post care of surgical patients. All tasks will be performed under the direction of a registered nurse.

Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions):

  • Performs 12 Lead EKG, places report on chart, ensures nurse and anesthesia provider are aware of document.
  • Gathers patient information including vital signs, pulse oximetry reading, height/weight and documents findings on the applicable nurses notes.
  • Performs waived test including urine pregnancy test and Glucometer. Documents test in log books and on the applicable nurses notes.
  • Changes simple dressings as directed by the RN.
  • Keeps nurse informed of patient status at all times. Changes in status are reported immediately.
  • Restocks supplies/equipment in area to maintain adequate levels for patient care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.
  • Adheres to established OneCore Health safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
  • Demonstrates the importance of continuing education to the performance of OneCore Health responsibilities and growth in profession.
  • Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care.
  • Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional environment.

Licensure and Certification: Current BCLS required, if not current must become trained within 30 days of hire.

Experience/Education required: Previous experience preferred. High School graduate or GED required.

Environmental and physical requirements - Requires physical ability for long term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist. The employee must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills. Requires communication skills to deal well with employees, patients, families and physicians. Vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation. Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch. Job risk include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with laser and chemicals, lifting of 30 - 75 pounds, and exposure to infectious disease.
