Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations (Facilities), the Facilities Maintenance Lead serves in a hands-on, lead capacity to ensure the smooth and efficient daily operation and maintenance of all campus facilities. This role takes initiative, coordinates closely with the Director and external contractors, and makes informed decisions to ensure maintenance projects are completed successfully. The Maintenance Lead actively participates in day-to-day custodial and skilled trade work and monitors the status of other operations staff in completing work orders and routine maintenance tasks. While not responsible for evaluating or disciplining staff, this role plays a vital part in maintaining the reliability and effectiveness of all campus facilities.Â
Primary Responsibilities
- Receives and prioritizes all daily building operation tasks and duties, assisting and delegating collaboratively among staff to ensure a continuously clean and safe school environment.
- Monitors and processes maintenance repair requests submitted through the Director or the FMX system, directing and training staff when appropriate to make needed repairs that match with their skill level.
- Prioritizes and mobilizes the operations staff, in collaboration with the Director, to execute necessary repairs on the school’s facilities and grounds.
- Coordinates with the Director and external trades to plan, implement, and successfully complete various maintenance projects.
- Meets regularly with the Director to discuss, plan, and implement effective procedures for maintaining a clean and safe campus environment.
- Interacts with school personnel to address needs, resolve complaints, and explain work requests, consulting with the Director on all complex work order issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Requirements
- Requires comprehensive knowledge of standard maintenance methods, tools, and equipment used in a school environment.
- Must possess hands-on troubleshooting and repair skills in light electrical and plumbing systems, and have operational knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining specialized cleaning machinery, such as floor machines, extractors, and scrubbers.
- Competence in landscape, sprinkler systems, and seasonal snow removal.
- Strict adherence to good safety practices and all applicable regulations is required across all maintenance activities.
- Responsible for assigning and prioritizing daily maintenance and custodial tasks in collaboration with operations staff.
- Actively tracks the status and timely completion of all work orders and routine assignments.
- Reports departmental issues to the Director to prevent workflow bottlenecks and project delays.
- Demonstrates strong communication and mentoring skills; patient and effective in teaching and supporting others’ learning.
- Must be able to work collaboratively during emergencies to quickly diagnose, plan, and execute solutions to ensure the school's safety and efficiency.
- Embodies a proactive, service-oriented mindset, prioritizing the needs of the facility and working cooperatively with all co-workers.
- Any combination of relevant training and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the role's essential duties.
- A valid driver’s license that meets the school’s vehicle and liability insurance requirements is mandatory.
Physical Requirements
- Must have sufficient stamina for extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
- Must have the strength to regularly and safely transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires dexterity for working with tools and equipment, and the ability to climb and descend ladders.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including snow, heat, cold, and other weather extremes.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, benefit eligible, non-exempt position, reporting to the Director of Operations. Â The anticipated start date is as soon as possible. Compensation is based on benchmarking and prior experience.
