Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess strength, stamina, mobility and willingness to perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and potentially hazardous conditions
- Must possess ability to drive a motor vehicle and/or light maintenance equipment; Will need to use own vehicle and provide proof of car insurance.
- Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
- Vision to read written materials and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Follow safety guidelines and safe work practices; Candidates must be able and willing to use/wear Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] as instructed and required based on the assigned task; This includes, but is not limited to, hardhats, gloves, face masks, hearing protection, eye protection, etc.
- Must possess communication and interpersonal relationships skills to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction; and
- Must be able to work various weekday and weekend hours between 6:00AM and 4:30PM up to 40 hours per week during the season which is generally from April 1 through September 30.
- May be required to work holidays (including Memorial Day and Fourth of July)
- Shifts are subject to change based on operational needs of the Department.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
- High school or GED;
- Valid class C California driver's license required and a satisfactory driving record; and
- Must be 18 years of age or older.

Working Conditions, ADA and Other Requirements
The duties of this classification require the ability to work outdoors under various climatic and geographic conditions; to work in an environment with exposure to dust, allergens, chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, and oil; to work around moving vehicles and equipment; and, to work on equipment with moving parts.
The essential duties require: the repetitive use of feet and hands to operate equipment and tools; the ability to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent handling of dirt, debris, soil, and litter; verbal exchange of ideas and information; hearing in order to receive verbal information and instruction; seeing with a good field of vision sufficient to operate equipment safely; the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and walk; and, finger dexterity and hand strength to operate and grasp tools and equipment.

Compensation and Benefits
Leather work boots are required and must be provided at the employee’s expense.
Benefits are not available for these positions beyond what is required by law. Compensation is hourly up to 40 hours per week. Seasonal assignments may be made for 6 months or less or other schedules to accommodate the needs of the Department.
