Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and execute precise programs for application of all pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Responsible for the purchasing/acquiring necessary supplies to maintain the golf course.
  • Keep accurate records of payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, etc.
  • Identify annual capital expenditure needs through the budget process.
  • Create annual budget designed for the specific needs of the golf course.
  • Plan and establish cost effective work schedules for staff.
  • Partner with Human Resources on posting jobs, employee selection, hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and problem solving.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to all staff to increase employee retention.
  • Communicate regularly with management, HR, and golf staff.
  • Assess golf course for damage immediately after storm events and provide a report.
  • Scout the golf course on a regular basis for potential insect, weed, and disease concerns. Diagnose anything unusual and take corrective action,
  • Establish and execute overseeding programs.
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment for staff by enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Make applications of pesticides, fertilizers, and seed, including the proper documentation of all applications, and the safe handling and storage of all pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Promote a positive relationship with team members in all departments and divisions.

 

Safety Responsibilities and Requirements:

 

 

  • Actively demonstrate, encourage, train, and model safety rules and guidelines in accordance with company, OSHA, EPA, DNR, and other state and federal requirements.
  • Investigate loss producing incidents and review prevention recommendations.
  • Actively participates in the safety meetings, providing and documenting safety training, and offering improvement suggestions.
  • Report safety or hazard concerns to management immediately.
  • Report any work-related injury to management immediately.
  • Follow all accident procedures according to guidelines and contact HR immediately.
  • Ensure all equipment is safe.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety every day.

Qualifications

Qualification-Requirements Experience - Education

  • Minimum 2-year degree in Turfgrass science or related field.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices, working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods, and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations-including but not limited to employment, safety, and environmental stewardship standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Participation in continuing education opportunities including seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows.
  • Knowledge of financial forecasting for golf course operation.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a SC pesticide license within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to interact well with others in a team environment.
