Description

The Assistant Track and Field Coach – Throws will be responsible for the design and implementation of the men’s and women’s throws program. Working with other event group coaches and reporting to the head coach, the candidate will have primary responsibility for developing athletes in the Shotput, Discus, Hammer, Weight Throw, and Javelin events, and for assisting the Head Coach with developing athletes in other events as needed. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

This is a part-time position for which the specific schedule and stipend will be determined by or with the head coach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide coaching and instruction to student-athletes participating in the sprints and vertical jumps events;
  • Develop a weekly schedule for training/practice and communicating this to the athletes on a consistent basis;
  • Attendance at practices which typically occur weekdays in evenings (fall/spring) or early mornings (Nov-Mar) and meets which typically occur on Fridays and/or weekends (mostly Saturdays);
  • Oversee strength development and/or plyometric routines and/or collaborate with other coaches on staff or within the strength and conditioning department to ensure these routines are instructed and completed correctly;
  • Assist with administrative duties to include completing meet entries online by specified deadlines;
  • Assist with actively recruiting new student-athletes to the program that meet the stringent academic requirements of the college and are compatible with a Division III program (e.g. non-scholarship, etc).
  • Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct representative of the coaching profession;
  • Adhere to all Lasell University, NCAA and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bylaws, rules and philosophies, and work to educate the student-athletes about those tenets. mentor and develop a positive culture for student-athletes;
  • Ensure set-up/clean-up of equipment (e.g. sleds, medicine balls, throwing implements, etc) to facilitate throws training as needed on a daily basis
  • All other duties as assigned and therefore deemed necessary and appropriate by the head coach and/or the Director of Athletics or his/her representative.

Qualifications

Minimum Education level:  bachelor's degree from accredited institution

 

Computer skills:  Microsoft Office

Other Requirements of the Job:
prior coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate level; knowledge of, and familiarity with, NCAA Division III guidelines
