Job Overview

The Director of Information Technology (IT) is responsible for overseeing DIU’s IT infrastructure, services, and strategy. This role ensures the seamless operation and management of the university’s technology systems, supporting faculty, staff, and students in achieving their academic, research, and administrative goals. The Director of IT will provide visionary leadership to the IT department, manage technical teams, and collaborate with senior leadership to align technology initiatives with the university’s objectives.

Responsibilities ii

1. Leadership & Strategy:

  • Provide strategic direction for the IT department, aligning technology initiatives with the university’s mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term technology plans, ensuring the infrastructure supports academic, research, and administrative needs.
  • Serve as a key member of the operations team, contributing to decisions regarding technology and digital transformation.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of IT professionals, ensuring continuous development and alignment with departmental goals.

2. IT Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the university's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, data centers, and communication systems.
  • Ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of all technology platforms.
  • Implement IT policies and procedures to maintain optimal operational efficiency and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

3. Budget & Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage the IT department's budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial constraints.
  • Assess the university’s technology needs and identify areas for cost savings, improvements, or upgrades.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and service agreements to ensure cost-effective and high-quality technology services.

4. Cybersecurity & Risk Management:

  • Lead the development and implementation of cybersecurity policies, practices, and risk management strategies to protect university data and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant data privacy laws, regulations, and university policies.
  • Stay informed on emerging cybersecurity threats and ensure the IT infrastructure remains resilient to potential risks.

5. Support Services & User Experience:

  • Oversee the IT support services for faculty, staff, and students, ensuring responsive and efficient assistance is provided.
  • Collaborate with various university departments to identify technology solutions that improve user experience and academic success.
  • Manage IT service desk operations, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues and user support requests.

6. Innovation & Collaboration:

  • Explore and implement new technologies to enhance the university’s academic, research, and administrative functions.
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to understand their technology needs and provide innovative solutions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring the IT department adapts to changing educational and technological landscapes.

7. Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding technology use, data storage, and privacy.
  • Prepare and deliver reports to university leadership on the status of IT projects, budgets, and key performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • 5 years of IT experience
  • Management experience

Hours

  • Full-time. Normal hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Available after hours, due to the flexible and responsive nature of this position, for emergency situations or matters that arise. 

Physical Requirements

Occasional moderate physical activity required. Able to lift 25 pounds.
