Description

Job Title: Director, Development 
Reports to: Chief Development Officer 
Department: Development 
Pay : $150,000-$165,000 yr. DOE

Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Development is responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a strong fundraising program that secures significant financial resources from individuals, foundations, corporations, and others to support CAM’s Strategic Plan.

 
    The Director of Development understands and complies with all gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Working with the CDO, maintain and grow a portfolio of 50 individual and institutional donors and prospects capable of giving $10,000 or more annually.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals and corporate, foundation, and government grants.
  • Lead on resource mobilization strategies working with program directors in support of the agency’s revenue goals.
  • Lead corporate and community sponsorship development against a calendar of events and publications to support the agency’s annual fund.
  • Build a culture for philanthropy, internally and externally, that will attract staff, board members, and donors to the organization and inspire excellence in donor relations and fundraising. 
  • Work with Director of Marketing and Communications to support annual giving appeals, constituent engagement pieces, and special campaigns through a multi-channel strategy including print, video, social media, email, online, etc.
  • Ensure that Community Action Marin’s donor database in Raiser’s Edge has high integrity of data collection, reports, and information for program, leadership, and board.
  • Work with Grants & Data Manager as a direct report to maintain prospect/donor records to ensure accuracy of information for contacts, biographies, meetings, gift entry, and acknowledgements.
  • Work with Grants & Data Manager as a direct report to maintain organized and timely submissions and reporting of corporate, foundation, and government grants.
  • Work with Events and Engagement Manager as a direct report to develop and enhance fundraising events that are high yield and high impact.
  • Build stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation strategies, engaging key staff and board members as appropriate in donor relationships.
  • Coordinate with Finance and leadership to ensure appropriate gifts, contracts, and grants processes and accounting.
  • Evaluate and implement internal systems, metrics, policies, and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness for the agency’s fund development efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of successful individual, events and/or institutional fundraising experience. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership experience including people responsibility, Board engagement, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth. 
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in major gifts giving and solicitation and fundraising campaigns. 
  • Proven success in asking for and closing major gifts.
  • Proven success in writing and securing grants. 
  • Valid CA driver license, reliable transportation, auto insurance and acceptable driving history to travel for business.  

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 20lbs.
  • Fine motor skill of typing, writing, filing and visual acuity.
  • Sit for extended periods of time performing work on a computer and phone.
  • Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
  • Travel to engage with external stakeholders.
