Assistant Director of Nursing—St. Barnabas Health System Nursing Home
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team at St. Barnabas Health System. In this pivotal role you will assist with planning, organization, direction, control, and evaluation of the nursing service in order to meet the total needs of the residents and to maintain a quality of service that will fulfill the objectives of the home and be in accord with the policies set forth by the home’s administration and governing body.

SPECIFIC/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Â
- Develops and maintains nursing objectives and standards for the institution.

2.       Plans, organizes, and directs effective administration of each nursing unit,
          based on the above-mentioned objectives, standards, policies and procedures
           and assures patients of a comfortable, clean, orderly and safe environment in
           the absence of the Director of Nursing.

3.       Continually evaluates all work activities under his/her supervision as
           a basis for developing more informative data for management decision
           making, increased efficiency and/or reduced cost in the absence of the
           Director of Nursing.

- Evaluates nursing service needs and determines staffing requirements. Maintain a 4-week staffing schedule with the nursing department.
Â
- Schedules hours for 24-hour coverage to comply with state code, assisted by
supervisory unit personnel. Supervises and evaluates work performance of
personnel in all units, assisted by supervisory unit personnel.Â
Â
- Keeps immediate supervisors promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and may take necessary corrective action where appropriate or suggest alternative courses of action which may be taken in the absence of the Director of Nursing. Monitor and audit clinical alerts as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

- Maintains required records; reviews, up-dates and revises policies,   procedures, job descriptions to meet current objectives and standards. Monitor and audit clinical alerts as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

- Assists in the establishment of a disaster, fire and safety program in cooperation with administration. Assures proper handling and emergency care of patients, personnel and visitors involved in accidents while on the job or in the building in the absence of the Director of Nursing.

9.        Advises and consults with administration on nursing administration and
           patient care. Prepares and submits required reports, and maintains statistics as
           directed. Attends department head meetings in the absence of the director of
           Nursing.

- Â Â Â Â Â Promotes effective working relationships with administration, medical staff,
           other departments, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the home.
Â
- Â Â Â Â Â Regularly inspects facility and nursing practices for compliance with federal,
           state and local standards and regulations.
Â
- Â Â Â Â Â Is responsible for the execution of patient care policies in the absence of a
                 Director of Nursing.
Â
- Â Â Â Â Â Â Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing. Must be a Registered Nurse.
Â
- At least five years’ experience in supervisory capacity in a hospital for extended care facility, including geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing is recommended, but not required.
Â
- Ability to incorporate all aspects of nursing in total patient care plans.
Â
- Ability to organize, plan and supervise nursing service department(s) and a sincere desire to work with the aged and those with limited capacity for self-care.
Â
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move at least 35 pounds
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sit/stand)
- Must be able to navigate and move around the facility to provide patient care.
