Position Summary:

The Flight Director at the Challenger Learning Center is responsible for leading simulated space missions, STEM education programs, and related activities for students and guests. This role requires a dynamic and engaging individual with a passion for space science, education, and teamwork. The Flight Director ensures that all simulations run smoothly, provides instruction to participants, and fosters a fun and educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Mission Operations & Facilitation:

  • Lead and facilitate simulated space missions, guiding students and participants through an immersive learning experience.
  • Operate the mission control software and coordinate mission events to ensure an engaging and educational experience.
  • Monitor and assist participants to ensure mission objectives are met while maintaining an interactive learning atmosphere.

STEM Education & Program Delivery:

  • Deliver engaging STEM lessons and activities in line with Challenger Learning Center curriculum and objectives.
  • Adapt lessons to suit different grade levels, learning styles, and audience needs.
  • Foster enthusiasm for STEM fields, problem-solving, and critical thinking through hands-on activities.

Training & Development:

  • Train and mentor volunteers, teachers, and support staff on mission procedures and program facilitation.
  • Stay current on Challenger Center mission protocols, space exploration advancements, and STEM education trends.

Administrative & Center Support:

  • Assist in program development, including enhancing mission scripts and updating educational materials.
  • Set up and maintain mission control and spacecraft simulator equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Support outreach efforts, promotional events, and community engagement to raise awareness of Challenger Learning Center programs.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, science, technology, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience in teaching, training, or interactive program facilitation (preferably in STEM or space education).
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills with the ability to engage audiences of all ages.
