Introduction

The Guest Services Associate plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and positive experience for all guests at the Greensboro Science Center. As one of the first points of contact, this position requires excellent communication skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Associates assist guests with general inquiries, ticket and membership sales, and carousel operations, ensuring smooth and efficient service. Additionally, they support the check-in process for group visits, helping coordinate large parties and school groups to ensure a seamless entry experience. This role requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as the Greensboro Science Center operates year-round with the exception of New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Admissions and Membership
    • Greet guests warmly and provide exceptional guest service
    • Assist with membership and ticket sales, ensuring accurate transactions
    • Operate a point-of-sale cash register and handle cash and credit card transactions
    • Maintain attention to detail during transactions to retain accurate data entry
    • Answer guest inquiries via phone and in-person interactions
  • Carousel Operations
    • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the carousel
    • Monitor guest activity to ensure safety regulations are followed
  • Group Sales Check-In
    • Assist with the check-in process for large groups, including school field trips
    • Communicate with group leaders to ensure accurate reservation details
    • Guide groups through entry procedures
    • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor during heavily busy check in time

Environmental Factors

  • Some work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • This position requires standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Interacting with both individuals and large groups is necessary and unavoidable.  Ability to talk, hear, and see are required.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and assist with carousel operations.
