The role of a Peer Support Specialist is to serve as a mental health and/or co-occurring condition who has been trained and certified to help others with these conditions, as well as identifying and achieving specific life and recovery goals. Peers work as a bridge linking people to services as they transition from hospitals or jails into the community.Â

Job Duties Include:
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the individual to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction
- Promote wellness management strategies, which include delivering manualized interventions (e.g. Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery)
- Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness and resilience
- Provide consultation to team members to assist in understanding of recovery and the role of the Peer Support Specialists, promoting a culture in which individual’s points of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment

Basic Requirements:
- Ability to perform tasks on the computer including working with Microsoft 360, Excel, Word and other basic programs.
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance coverage and reliable transportation
- Pass criminal background check and other regulatory checks
- Provide proof of your education

Education and Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- NC Certified Peer Support Specialist
- Must have experience working with individuals with mental health or substance use disorders and have the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the population and age to be served
