Summary / Objective

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing a wide range of accounting support using their knowledge of accounting and financial institutions to complete daily responsibilities and communicate effectively with team members.  The primary responsibility of this individual is accounts payable and associated record keeping.  This individual is responsible for performing tasks using various accounting software applications to process accounts payable and journal entry transactions.  The Accounting Assistant will also use a variety of software applications to prepare reports for the department, gather information for reconcilements and conduct any necessary research.

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting of Business, or equivalent experience
  • Two or more years of accounting experience is preferred
  • Background and general knowledge of accounting principles
  • Experience in excel spreadsheets and financial reports

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform accounts payable functions and manages related record keeping 
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of 1099 forms
  • Perform the cost accounting and recordkeeping for the AMEX program
  • Prepare disbursements and maintain financial records for the Charitable Foundation
  • Create and submit routine wire transactions
  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the department
  • Reconcile select general ledger and bank accounts and performs follow up on reconciling items as necessary
  • Create and post general ledger entries
  • Function in accordance with established Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory standards for financial institutions

Qualifications

 

Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Good understanding of accounting systems and the ability to learn more
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate excel skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to determine work priorities and meet schedules and deadlines
  • Successful completion of in-house training programs or other approved training programs
  • Compliance with BSA regulations as appropriate to the position

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to use standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers
  • Requires manual dexterity and sitting for longer periods of time
  • Must be able to work schedules that meet the needs of the Bank, which may include early morning, evening and /or weekend hours
