PRIMARY DUTIES: 

  • Promote clinical, operational, and financial excellence within the dental program 

  • Oversee the delivery of comprehensive dental services, including diagnosis, preventive care, and advanced dental treatments 

  • Directly supervise licensed professional dental staff and dental residents and students 

  • Support the supervision of auxiliary staff 

  • Develop, review, and update clinical protocols to ensure best practices and evidence-based care 

  • Ensure organizational compliance with all regulations, including those by the State Board of Dentistry. 

  • Lead quality assurance programs, including peer reviews and patient feedback, to monitor and enhance clinical performance 

  • Provide mentorship and training to dental staff, fostering professional development and maintaining high standards of care 

  • Collaborate with the executive team to develop strategic plans for dental services and manage the dental department's budget 

  • Coordinate with other departments and external agencies to integrate dental services into comprehensive patient care plans 

  • Develop and implement community outreach programs to promote oral health education 

  • Other duties as assigned 

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Possess a valid Texas driver’s license and appropriate liability insurance 

  • Visual and auditory accuracy 

  • Shift length variable 

  • Indoor setting 

  • Continuous use of computer and calculator 

  • Extended periods of standing and/or sitting 

  • Frequent use of telephone 

  • Continuous repetitive grasping and manipulation of both hands

Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Chief Dental Officer (CDO) provides clinical and strategic leadership for all dental services within the organization. As a member of the clinical leadership team, the CDO is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, and cost-effective oral healthcare to a diverse, underserved population, including pediatric and special needs populations. 

 

EDUCATION: 

  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited school of dentistry 

  • Satisfactory completion of an AGD, GPR, or Pediatric Dentistry residency highly preferred; board certification in Pediatric Dentistry is preferred 

 

CERTIFICATIONS 

  • Licensed (or license-eligible) and in good standing to practice dentistry in the State of Texas 

  • DEA and DPS registrations 

  • Maintain current CPR certification 

 

REPORTS TO: Chief Clinical Officer 

 

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of five years in the practice of dentistry. Experience in pediatric or community dentistry preferred. Minimum of two years of clinical leadership experience strongly preferred.
