SUMMARY

Marist School, a co-educational, college-preparatory, Catholic school, seeks a faith-driven, experienced school leader to serve as a long-term substitute for the 7th and 8th grade-level Personal/Academic Counselor. The approximate dates are August 1 – December 31, 2025.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND FUNCTIONS

  • Experience providing individual and small group counseling, guidance lessons and parent education.
  • Ability to provide support and leadership to staff in delivering a comprehensive guidance program.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving.
  • Assisting students in developing goals and strategies to meet their full potential based on the mission of Marist School.
  • Assisting students in acquiring knowledge, communication and problem-solving skills that promote healthy relationships and academic achievement.
  • Creating positive relationships with students that foster personal growth and service to others.
  • Coordinating with faculty to provide instructional classroom activities that will support the values and mission of the school.
  • Maintaining a positive culture to support student achievement and personal growth.
  • Conducting seminars and/or providing educational information to parents that facilitate the home/school partnership.
  • Participating in the Student Services and Student Support Team committees which work to develop school-wide and individual interventions based on identified student needs.
  • Serve as a homeroom advisor and grade-level coordinator of our Marist Advisory program.
  • Providing crisis counseling when needed.
  • Adhering to legal and ethical guidelines and professional standards of the profession.
  • Collaborate to create wellness programming for the school community.
  • Participating in the activities of the school, including Masses, school assemblies, pep rallies, and other events where supervision is expected.

 

RISK MANAGEMENT STANDARDS

Specific abuse risk management standards are summarized as follows.

  • Adhere to boundaries with students.
  • Attend required abuse risk management training.
  • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job-specific abuse management responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

A master’s degree in counseling or social work from an accredited college or university is preferred along with experience working effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators. Additional time is required beyond a normal workday or week for evening and some weekend meetings and gatherings. Transcripts and references must be submitted during the application process. A background check and drug screen are part of the hiring process.
