Organizational Description
The Hegeler Carus Foundation (Foundation), established in 1995, is located in La Salle, IL. The Foundation is responsible for oversight, collections management, programming, maintenance, and restoration of the Hegeler Carus Museum Campus consisting of the Hegeler Carus Mansion, the Julius W. Hegeler Mansion, and the Stone Cottage.
The Hegeler Carus Mansion, a historic house museum, on the campus, is an 1876 Second Empire masterpiece and National Historic Landmark (2007) by architect W. W. Boyington and interior designer, August Fiedler. With seven levels, fifty-seven rooms, and 22,000 square feet, this impeccably preserved mansion showcases intricate parquet floors and hand-painted ceilings. Beyond its architectural splendor, the mansion played a pivotal role in industry, philosophy, publishing, and religion providing a captivating history, both locally and internationally.

Job Summary
The Site Manager is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the Hegeler Carus Museum Campus including the Hegeler Carus Mansion, Julius W. Hegeler I Mansion, Stone Cottage and the campus grounds. This is a full-time, position with benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintain the exterior and interior of the Mansion and its carriage house, the Julius W. Hegeler I Home, and Stone Cottage.
- Maintain stock of maintenance supplies.
- Manage large-scale cleaning projects as needed.
- Maintain Mansion’s telephone and alarm system.
- Maintain six acres of grounds; rake, shovel snow, weed, trim trees, dig swale, maintain gardens, repair washouts of driveway, paths, and walkways after rain. Maintain and clean parking area and sidewalks on Seventh and Sterling Streets.
- Make major and minor repairs to the Mansion and other buildings as needed.
- Oversee other repairs to the Mansion and other buildings.
- Maintain temperature and humidity with portable air conditioners, heaters, humidifiers and dehumidifiers.
- Supervise Mansion labor and temporary labor as needed.
- Serve as a member of the restoration project teams to ensure that restoration projects remain on schedule and are done within budget.
- Research information regarding cost and recommendations regarding maintenance projects.
- Maintain workshop, including keeping all equipment and tools in good working condition.
- Museum event support: working closely with all team members to coordinate and manage site infrastructure support for external and internal events, tours, classes, meetings, etc.
- Coordinate risk assessments across the property, scheduling appropriate outside agencies as appropriate to mitigate liability risks.
- Coordinate in-house resources with external contractors (as appropriate) to manage internal and external site maintenance.
- Manage relationships with all facilities and operations related suppliers.
- Fire and security management including security codes, keys, etc.
- Waste removal activities
- Utilities oversight
- Work with Executive Director on budget planning and ongoing management of applicable budget items.
- Assist the Director and staff as needed.
- Work special events.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
