Coastal Health Surgery Center – Surgical Technologist Job Posting

Overview:
We are seeking a qualified Surgical Technologist to join our team at Coastal Health Surgery Center. This role is responsible for preparing instruments and supplies for surgical procedures, assisting surgeons during operations, maintaining proper use of equipment and supplies, managing surgical and anesthesia inventory, and performing central sterile processing functions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the organization

  • Contribute to the development and progress of the Quality and Risk Management Program

  • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and team members

  • Maintain individual and team professional competence

  • Follow all Patient Care and Treatment Policies and Procedures

  • Perform scrub assistant duties in the operating room in adherence to aseptic technique and established protocols

  • Comply with sterilization and processing procedures

  • Collaborate with the team to manage surgical and anesthesia inventory levels and maintain accurate records


Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited two-year Surgical Technology program

  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification

  • At least 1 year of experience in a multi-specialty surgical environment preferred

  • Strong understanding of sterilization principles is required


Position Requirements:

  • High-level visual and auditory acuity necessary for patient care and rapid response

  • Physical ability to:

    • Frequently reach overhead, bend, and move quickly to assist with procedures

    • Stand for extended periods

    • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., frequently lift up to 20 lbs., and consistently lift up to 10 lbs.

    • Support patient care activities requiring exertion of up to 30 lbs. regularly, 40 lbs. occasionally, and 100 lbs. rarely

    • Assist in transporting patients and equipment as needed

  • Ability to perform CPR when required


Occupational Exposure:

  • Category I: Exposure to blood-borne pathogens

  • Potential exposure to chemical and/or radiation hazards


Experience:
Minimum of 1 year preferred in a surgical technologist role


Education & Licensure:

  • Graduate of a two-year Surgical Technology program

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required

  • Prior experience in a scrub role within a multi-specialty surgical environment is preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterilization techniques and protocols

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities. Frequent overhead and low reaching and bending. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand for long periods, and to exert a force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up-to 10 lbs. constantly. All patient care activities may require the ability to exert a force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely. Ability to assist with the transport of patients, and supplies in and out of the surgical area as needed. Ability to perform Cardio-Pulmonary-Resuscitation if indicated.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE: Category I exposure to blood-borne pathogens, exposure to chemical and/or radiation hazards.

EXPERIENCE: 1 year (Preferred Minimum)

  • Graduation from a surgical tech two-year program. Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist. (CST)
