GENERAL INTRODUCTION:

The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8).  He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (Apostolorum Successores 177).


Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.



NOTE:  This is an appointed position by the Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle and subject to Archdiocesan Policy pertaining to appointed positions.  The supervisor of this position reserves the right to make necessary modifications to this position to reflect current and appropriate responsibilities.


 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:

 

This position is expected to assist in the creation of a long-term vision and direction for Camp programs and properties, with a particular focus on the camper experience and the role of camp in supporting the evangelization of youth and young adults. This position directly supervises the programming areas for camps including program planning, maintenance, capital projects, guest service and food services. Additionally, this position will direct the day-to-day operations and needs of capital projects and maintenance for two properties spanning 600+ acres, located 40 minutes apart, two large rental programs, and the food service of all facility users.

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:


 

  1. Creates and maintains a culture in CYO Camp programs that align with the vision of the Archbishop of Seattle to foster the growth of faith and evangelize youth.  Provides vision, goals, and direct supervision for full-time and seasonal staff within Camps to ensure that all programs extend the ministry of the Archbishop and are implemented in accordance with the goals, policies, and the mission of the local and universal Church.

 

  1. Serves as the public face of CYO Camps; cultivating alumni, donor, community, volunteer, parish and school relationships.

 

  1. Ensures excellence in all camp programs by setting benchmarks for quality, safety, and Catholic identity, designing faith-centered programs, monitoring camper enrollment targets, and adapting offerings to feedback and current youth ministry and camping trends.

 

  1. Develops and implements a comprehensive marketing and outreach plan to promote CYO Camps. This includes cultivating relationships with parishes, schools, and alumni; leveraging digital platforms and traditional media; and coordinating year-round recruitment efforts to grow camper enrollment and expand awareness of CYO’s mission.

 

  1. Drives the implementation of the department’s vision as it relates to facility design, maintenance, usage, and staffing. Has an in depth knowledge of all Department and Chancery ministries and programming in order to partner with and serve these ministries as well as to evangelize those who use our facilities.

 

  1. Plans, prepares and monitors budgets for Camps and Facilities including planning for the funding of capital improvements and investments to strengthen the program and facilities.

 

  1. Responsible for the condition and upkeep of properties entrusted to Camps through the ongoing supervision of and collaboration with the lead maintenance tech. Provides stewardship and guidance of our Forest Management plan and ensures that it is executed with the best interest of the Archdiocese and camp properties.

 

  1. Facilitates capital meetings with Archdiocese committees/groups and generates and implements the capital projects and development of the Camp Properties.
    1. Creates, maintains and drives the overall vision and long-term strategic plan of the Camps with guidance from Department and Chancery leadership.
    2. Manages and balances capital budgets. Prioritizes projects to ensure the proper use of funds to cover the requests.
    3. Develops and maintains a yearly calendar and timeline for projects and deadlines.
    4. Manages staff, contractors and volunteers in the completion of projects in a timely manner.
    5. Working with the Development Department on fundraising events, capital campaigns, and grant writing to support camp programs and facilities.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


1.   Primary:


  1. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
  2. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church
  3. Active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church.
  4. Desire to further the work of the Catholic Church and connect with youth and other groups promoting a relationship with Jesus Christ.
  5. Make decisions without direction that can have large impacts to budgets, facilities and properties with little or no direction at times.
  6. Ability to manage multiple facilities while keeping a variety of needs in balance.

2.   Education:


    1. 4-year degree or equivalent qualifying experience.

 

3.   Experience:

  1. At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in a day or overnight camp
  2. Working knowledge in the following areas:
    1. Aquatic and lakefront facilities.
    2. Equine programming
    3. Adventure (climbing, high ropes) programming
    4. Facility and vehicle maintenance.
    5. Cooking experience for large groups, preferably in an industrial kitchen.
  3. Demonstrated successful experience in:
    1. staff supervision
    2. marketing and communication
    3. customer service.
    4. ACA accreditation
    5. working with people from various economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
  4. Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Office programs, and web-based technologies such as blogs, websites, and social media.

 

4.   Other Elements:

      a.    Commitment to the mission and values of Camps.

      b.    Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, comfortable with public speaking.

      c.    Strong organizational skills.

      d.    Must have access to transportation and possess a valid Washington State driver’s license.

      f.    Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.



Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
