The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking an outstanding middle school Hebrew language educator to join our Middle School faculty for the 2026-2027 school year. Our Hebrew program is based on the proficiency model guided by the ACTFL standards for second language instruction.Â

Successful candidates will have at least three years of demonstrated success teaching Hebrew as a second language to middle school students and will have familiarity and experience with teaching the proficiency model. The ideal candidate is passionate and charismatic and uses a student-centered approach to teaching. They are experienced in effective methods of assessment of second language skills, and are familiar with recognized standards of language instruction, with ACTFL standards. Candidates demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in the life of a vibrant school community and have demonstrated success in working collaboratively as part of a team.Â

Pay is commensurate with education and experience and is calculated according to a school-wide pay scale.Â

Responsibilities:Â
- Teach Hebrew language and culture to students in grades 6-8, including identifying appropriate authentic texts, lesson planning and unit planning;
- Participate in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress;
- Be present for duties that include advisory, academic flex block, breaks, and other experiential education courses;
- Work collaboratively within the Upper School Hebrew department and middle school faculty;
- Teach a weekly advisory or other experiential education course;
- Other duties as assigned.Â
