Mount St. Joseph University's Department of Exercise Science and Integrative Health is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach ESC 475: Exercise Programming for Special Populations face-to-face on Tuesday and Thursdays 1:40 – 2:50 in Spring 2026.
ESC 475 Exercise Programming for Special Populations (3)
Prerequisite(s): ESC 323/323A – Health Assessment and Exercise Prescription
This course will emphasize information regarding exercise for special populations related to cardiac conditioning, physical disabilities, diabetes, sensory impairment, pediatrics, seniors, mentally impaired, pregnancy, and infectious diseases throughout the lifespan. Interactions between medication and response to exercise as well as modifications to exercise prescription will also be covered. The course content is based upon guidelines published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Responsibilities may include the following:
- Course instruction
- Grading assignments
- Monitoring student participation
- Office hours
- Meetings with the Chair and/or faculty
- Adherence to department and university policies and procedures
- Maintaining open communication with students, staff, and faculty
- Maintaining the confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA
- Ability to use technology in teaching
