Salary Range: Please note that the typical hiring range is $27.80 - $28.59 hourly. Job offers within the range are based on relevant job qualifications and pay equity.
 

The Logistics Officer contributes to the calling of Medical Teams International by coordinating with Material Surplus Recovery Operations (MSRO) partners to receive and ship medical supplies at the Tigard Distribution Center. This position works closely with other Distribution Center (DC) staff to ensure safe receipt, kitting, consolidation and loading of received medical supplies for national and international distribution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Distribution Center - Inbound and Outbound Donations

  • Liaise with the Supply Chain and Volunteer Manager about efficient coordination of donor and partner shipments. 
  • Collaborate with the Distribution Manager and the Supply Chain and Volunteer Manager to ensure the management and optimal flow of warehouse operations occurs in the most practicably efficient and safe manner.   
  • Manage efficient storage of inventory within the warehouse to ensure items are available for kitting, consolidation, and shipment in a timely manner 
  • Maintain accurate inventory of unprocessed and finished pallets, inputting information into the existing IMS systems to enable detailed and accurate reporting for audit purposes.   
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized warehouse work environment for staff and volunteers in conjunction with the Distribution Manager and Safety & Facilities Specialist to meet OSHA and other safety and workplace regulations. 
  • Coordinate with the Facilities and Safety Specialist to train and oversee volunteers in their assigned positions : driver, equipment operator, pre-sort, palletizer, equipment repair, and other positions. 
  • Responsible for managing waste management materials and recycling, including managing the corresponding business relationships and guiding volunteers to assist.  
  • Coordinate the daily maintenance/scheduling of warehouse vehicles and equipment including liaising with the US Programs Fleet Specialist on sourcing suppliers for planned maintenance, servicing and spare parts. 
  • Participate in cross-training to perform non-shipping and receiving functions. 
  • In conjunction with the Distribution Manager, evaluate the need for and provide regular maintenance and repairs for DC machines, racking, and facility. 
  • Responsible for tracking and ordering DC supplies with approved vendors. 
  • Maintain volunteer satisfaction using adequate training, and demonstrating encouragement, appreciation, and acceptance; provide clear directions, encourage teamwork and build camaraderie amongst volunteers. 
  • Help volunteers perform their tasks by regularly working side-by-side with them. 
  • Facilitate the preparation of all loading and off-loading of medical health products for shipment, both international and domestic, in a safe and secure manner 
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) for program implementation and collaboration with external partners for roles the Logistics Officer performs.  
  • Support MHP Program with the resell program. 
  • Participate in Logistics, Medicine and Health Products, and other team meetings. 

MSRO Program Support 

  • Support MSRO Program Manager with the hand carry program.  
  • Assist MSRO Program Manager with biohazard disposal program.  
  • Support the MSRO Program Manager in executing Medical Teams’ Medical Surplus Recovery.  

Other duties: 

  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding Code of Conduct and behavior expectations. 
  • Utilize volunteers whenever possible.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS  

Required:   

  • 4-year degree or equivalent Supply Chain or Warehousing experience. Experience will be substituted on a year-for-year basis  
  • Valid driver license, with a clean driving record 

Preferred:   

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher education in supply chain or warehousing related subjects 
  • Forklift, Scissor Lift certificate 

 EXPERIENCE  

Required: 

  • Minimum 3 years’ warehouse experience, or equivalent 
  • Minimum 3 years’ expediting and supply chain experience 
  • Experience in developing and delivering training materials 
  • Supervisory experience and ability to assess and assign tasks 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in volunteer engagement, management, and training  
  • Inventory reconciliation experience 
  • Experience operating a forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES  

Knowledge:   

  • Expediting and supply chain knowledge including execution of bills of lading and shipping scheduling 
  • Knowledge of medical material handling, shipment preparation and expediting, operating in warehouse environments and inventory management 

Skills: 

  • Organizational skills including maintaining schedules and multiple tasks. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook email and calendaring. 
  • Intermediate skills with Internet, intranet, and Client Relations Management (CRM) software.
