Description

Parallel to technical competence, recruitment & selection, hiring decisions will give due emphasis to assessing candidates' eligibility thorough background checks, police clearance, and professional reference check processes. 

JOB SUMMARY                               

 

The Communications Graduate Volunteer works closely with field communication focal persons to capture, document and develop communications around project activities. This role also works closely with the HQ Brand and Communications team to cultivate content to be published in Medical Teams brand, marketing and fundraising channels, as well as ensure proper branding of visibility materials.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                        

Content Collection & Storytelling

  • Visit field locations to capture images, videos, and stories of impact.
  • Interview staff, patients, and partners (with consent) to develop compelling human-interest stories.
  • Process and upload photos, stories, and videos into Medical Teams’ content management systems.
  • Maintain and manage country camera gear.

Branding & Visibility

  • Ensure visibility and branding materials (signposts, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, etc.) comply with Medical Teams and donor guidelines.
  • Coordinate with HQ Brand and Communications team for design and compliance support.

Communication Support

  • Collect and edit content from the field for use in reports, proposals, newsletters, and media releases.
  • Update and manage the country SharePoint communications page.
  • Support preparation of program reports and visibility materials for institutional donors.
  • Assist in organizing and documenting events and campaigns.

Capacity Building & Collaboration

  • Support field communication focal points with guidance and training on photo and story collection.
  • Participate in global content community calls, trainings, and knowledge sharing.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Promote and uphold Medical Teams’ safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Conduct yourself with integrity and respect, consistent with Medical Teams’ Code of Conduct.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field (graduated within the past 2 years).
  • Experience (including internships or volunteering) in communications, or related fields is an added advantage.
  • Photography, videography, or basic graphic design skills are desirable.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, planning and strategy, and the role of mass media
  • Knowledge of how to present information to different audiences.

SKILLS

  • Excellent English communication skills; highly articulate verbally and in writing
  • Skilled in conducting interviews and managing relationships with media representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Proven writing and editing skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Graphic design skills are an added advantage.
  • Photography and/or video skills are preferred.
  • Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Skilled at producing writing products for professional publications.

  • Ability to exercise considerable initiative to plan, organize and follow through to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in situations which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to act with integrity and maintain the highest ethical standards.
  • Ability to support Medical Teams Calling and adhere to the Medical Teams Code of Conduct
