JOB SUMMARY                               

 Responsible for capturing reliable and up to date patient data, cleaning data and preparing basic reports to inform decision making at the health facility level.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                            

 

The volunteer MEAL assistant will serve and perform the following duties:

  • Assist medical staff by capturing patient information in paper files and enter data in HIS/HMIS electronic and manual registers daily
  • Responsible for cleaning data in the database to ensure quality, up to date and reliable information
  • Generate weekly and monthly data reports in accordance with reporting standards
  • Oversee the storage of data hard copies to ensure strict confidentiality in line with MTI policy
  • Mentor health facility staff in data management best practices
  • Perform basic data analysis and make presentations to health facility staff on recent performance trends, organize CMEs with health facility staff to analyze and interpret medical data
  • Assist the Biostatistician in conducting assessments to measure quality of service provision
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICICATIONS

  • Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Quantitative Economics, Social Sciences, Information Technology or related field or Diploma in Health information and record management from a recognised Institution
  • Optimal computer proficiency with MS Office software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in managing health data in a MoH or NGO setting
  • Experience working in a health setting and with HIS/HMIS is an added advantage

Preferred:

  • Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITITES

Knowledge:  

  • Basic knowledge of data management best practices
  • Basic knowledge of health data analysis
  • Knowledge of electronic data collection tools such as ODK collect, Kobo Toolbox etc

 

Skills: 

  • Skilled in using HIS/HMIS databases and Microsoft Office package such as Word, Excel, Power Point etc
  • Skilled in generating basic reports and basic data visualisation
  • Skilled in training and capacity building
  • Skilled in communication software: Outlook, MS Teams, Zoom.Analytical with strong attention to detail

 

 

Abilities: 

  • Ability to act with integrity and maintain the highest ethical standards
  • Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate team members such as for performance reviews, report compilation, follow up meetings among others

  • If in travel status, occasional to frequent traversing over rough or steep terrain in either a motor vehicle or on foot.
