POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing quality instruction/officiating to the YMCA sports program, ensuring appropriate behavior of participants, parents, coaches, and other spectators during game time. Responsible for providing equipment at sport site, assist with set-up and clean-up, and assist volunteer coaches with their needs. Must display exemplary interaction with parents and program participants that is consistent with the YMCA mission and values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Know and understand the philosophy of the YMCA Youth Super Sports program and the purpose of developing youth through Y programs.
- Prepare program site. Set-up equipment, maintain equipment, clean-up site at conclusion and return all equipment to proper storage area.
- Meet and greet players, parents, and coaches and address the groups prior to game time regarding the expectations of the YMCA in regards to the Youth Sports Program.
- Officiate according to the guidelines and rules established by the YMCA with emphasis on YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility; and in accordance to generally accepted officiating etiquette.
- Implement YMCA Character Development into all sports.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and continuing job training.
- Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report in writing any problems.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Supports The Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA), encouraging children, adults and families to adopt a healthy lifestyle and role-model standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
