Make an impact by supporting the growth and success of a nonprofit foundation while gaining hands-on experience in Human Resources.

The Human Resource Intern will assist the HR Department with day-to-day operations, focusing on supporting recruitment efforts, onboarding, employee engagement, and HR administrative tasks. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is organized, and is interested in learning how HR supports the overall mission of a nonprofit organization.

This position will be 10-15 hours per week, with a combination of in-office administrative work and collaborative support for staff and program teams. Hours are flexible within 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The intern will report directly to the HR Generalist, with a flexible internship time frame ranging from 3 to 12 months, depending on school requirements or individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding Support

• Assist in posting job and internship openings on job boards.
• Organize and review resumes and applications.
• Help schedule interviews and communicate with candidates.
• Support new hire onboarding by preparing materials and setting up workstations.
• Assist with tracking completion of required onboarding and training assignments in Paycom.
• Research and attend career fairs to promote HALO’s mission, internship, and employment opportunities.

Employee Engagement & Administrative Support

• Help plan and coordinate employee engagement and appreciation activities.
• Support HR team communications such as newsletters or internal announcements on Slack.
• Assist with organizing employee meetings and HR events such as Open Enrollment for employee benefits. 
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.

Learning & Professional Development

• Shadow the Human Resources Generalist to gain exposure to recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement processes.
• Participate in HR meetings and training sessions, as appropriate.
• Support various HR projects and initiatives as assigned such as HALO Membership.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and willing to learn Slack and Paycom software.
• Positive attitude and interest in nonprofit work and youth development.
