EveryMind (in partnership with HealthyMinds Alliance) is recruiting for an AmeriCorps member to serve as an instructor teaching an evidenced based mental health training such as Mental Health First Aid, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) or ASK (Assessment Suicide in Kids) and provide support to EveryMind’s community education programs. The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for all aspects of the training courses such as community outreach, building partnerships, marketing, and participant tracking/ evaluation. In addition, the AmeriCorps member will assist in coordinating educational events including trainings, webinars and speaking requests.  

Schedule Structure and Work Site: Hybrid, M-F core hours of 9am-5pm with some flexibility required.

Details and Benefits include: 

  • Complete a 10-month commitment, specific dates will be determined by the host site supervisor* 
  • Full-time AmeriCorps position - 1700 service hours – 40 hours per week, 5 holidays, 2.5 personal days 
  • AmeriCorps members receive a $17,000 stipend for their service – paid biweekly = 22 checks 
  • $6,495 Education Award upon completion of service commitment (1700 service hours) 

Essential duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Participate in an evidenced based mental health instructor training (Date & Location TBD) 
  • Disseminate information on training courses to community members and organizations 
  • Outreach to local community for course participants, as well as recruit and engage community partners 
  • Schedule and organize EveryMind community education presentations and events including evidenced based courses 
  • Track each participant certified through pre and post evaluations 
  • Submit evaluations as directed by Health360 and training entity 
  • Establish and foster relationships with community mental health agencies as partners and resources 
  • Advocate for mental health awareness by promoting the principles of the mental health first aid curriculum whenever possible 
  • Participate in AmeriCorps large service project and monthly calls held nationally by Health360 
  • Coordinate information fairs and speaking requests and provide coverage at community events as needed.  
  • Assist host site with ongoing community mental health initiatives and regional activities

Loan Deferment and Interest Forbearance

Individuals in approved AmeriCorps positions are eligible for forbearance for most federally-guaranteed student loans. In addition, interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps.

Money for College and Trade School

The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is offered to individuals who complete a term of service and can be used to pay for a range of educational expenses, like repaying qualified student loans or future tuition payments. You can earn up to two full Education Awards with multiple service terms.

Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in public health or another human services field required. 

Experience: 

A minimum of one-year coordinating education programs, providing trainings and building relationships, strongly preferred.  

Skills:  

  • Excellent verbal & written communication and organizational skills.  
  • Must be detail oriented and able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks while working effectively independently as well as part of a team  
  • Personal and/ or professional knowledge of mental health topics 
  • Strong teaching and/ or training skills and experience, especially with adult learners             
  • Understanding of mental health issues and resources 
  • Skills and experience facilitating diverse groups and creating/maintaining a positive, effective learning environment 
  • Knowledge about mental health resources in her/his community and state 
  • Positive attitudes towards individuals with mental illnesses 
  • Enthusiasm for reducing the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and addiction disorders
