Join our team as the Housing Navigator! This position is responsible for navigating homeless individuals and families referred to the program to match them to the appropriate housing opportunity and then transition them for case management services to successfully complete the program. Housing Navigation includes screening participants using an assessment workflow through the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or other designated database and will accompany clients from the housing referral through the lease-up process. The position will also collaborate with case managers, landlords and community partners. Responsible for working with clients participating in the Housing Program or other housing stability assistance program, coordinating/updating available and eligible housing units, and collaborating with assigned case manager. Also responsible for maintaining client files in accordance with agency policies, inputting client information in a designated database(s) and gathering and reporting program metrics.

 

What you Deliver

  • Works with clients, referred by supervisor, to enroll in program and identify eligible and available housing units for lease. Assists clients in gathering all documents necessary to complete a housing program enrollment. Accompanies clients to all housing appointments and serves as clients’ primary advocate during the housing search and selection process and prior to transfer to the housing case manager.
  • Assists clients to complete lease application, including assembling documentation needed for lease-up, and securing related assistance (application fee, etc.) as needed.
  • Maintains precise and accurate documentation of housing navigation services, including client files and entries into the program databases.
  • Attends Housing Assessor, Navigator, HMIS and other applicable trainings, as assigned, to effectively collaborate with partners and implement the navigation portion of the program effectively.
  • Coordinates with a variety of outside providers, as necessary, to meet client’s needs and avoid duplications of services. Provides community resource referrals for clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The Expertise We're Looking For

  • Associate Degree in psychology or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in homeless services.
  • One (1) year of case management experience
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

  • Experience conducting outreach and presentations.
  • Flexible and effective team player, able to adapt to changes and a busy workplace environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with housing issues and available resources.
  • Experience and knowledge with the challenges of and resources for those at-risk of homelessness.
  • Knowledge of homelessness and related issues, and poverty-related issues.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to self-motivate.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and people skills.
  • Computer literate – experience with MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and using internet.
  • Ability to work under pressure, address multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify key issues in problem solving and implement effective and creative solutions.
