The Refugee Resettlement Department assists refugees in Houston to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to reach self-sufficiency and live with dignity.
The Outreach Coordinator is supporting refugee clients through their journey toward economic self-sufficiency by facilitating employment connections, building strong community networks, and promoting collaborative partnerships. This position is responsible for conducting outreach both internally and externally, supporting clients in their employment journey, and acting as a liaison between the Refugee Resettlement program and other community resources.
The Outreach Coordinator also leads community outreach efforts to identify new job opportunities, inform clients about employment services, and connect them with additional support resources. The ideal candidate is community-oriented, culturally competent, and experienced in employment services or workforce development.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Conduct regular outreach to referral clients from within the Refugee Resettlement Department and other partner organizations.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with key services, ensuring open communication, mutual cooperation and the rapid resolution of challenges that may arise.
- Network and build partnerships with community groups, faith-based organizations, and civic associations that are interested in supporting the refugee population.
- Build and maintain relationships with local employers, identifying job openings and advocating for client referrals. Promote the hiring of refugees by educating employers about the benefits and logistics of employing resettled individuals. Develop and maintain a database of employer contacts and job opportunities tailored to client needs.
- Researching and pursuing quality jobs with a fair wage. Recruit employment volunteers and interpreters to assist clients, when necessary.
- Provide weekly orientation to walk-in clients about employment services and EAD card approval process. Connect with legal services and other community resources for which clients maybe be eligible to receive assistance. Track all events and contacts to maintain relationships, evaluate effectiveness and information future work.
- Assist with reviewing client files and ensuring completeness and accurate file documentation in compliance with funding requirements. Assist in data collection for the completion of reports by providing data and information, as needed.
