General Summary

This position performs a wide variety of administrative and clinical services. The Medical Assistant (MA) will help patients by providing information, services, and assistance for all outpatient psychiatry services. Other duties include securing electronic medical records, scheduling & rescheduling appointments, managing patient inquiries, and maintaining medical records in timely fashion. The MA is instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the psychiatrist’s office and often explain the psychiatrists’ instructions. 

 

This position reports to: Nurse Supervisor. 

 

Essential Functions

  1. Provides clinical/administrative support for Outpatient Medical Department

  2. Enter/secure/maintain information in Electronic Medical Record 

  3. Take vital signs/medical history. 

  4. Call/fax prescriptions to pharmacy. 
  5. Schedule appointments and follow-up appointments/verify consent forms. 
  6. Perform clinical procedures under supervision of physician. 
  7. Fields calls and inquiries - gather preliminary information regarding visit 
  8. Practice OSHA safety standards 
  9. Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times 
  10. Upholds HIPAA regulations 
  11. Proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills 
  12. Writes and speaks effectively

Qualifications

Employment Qualifications 

 

Education: High School Diploma and graduation from accredited Medical Assistant Program (MA). Must have 1-year experience in clinical setting; prefer Certified MA (expectation - certification within 1 year of hire date) and CPR Certification. Computer and office technologies required. 

 

Experience: 

  1. One year experience in clinic/office setting 
  2. Knowledge of mental health services preferred. 
  3. Lived experience with behavioral health issues preferred. 

 

Other Requirements: 

  1. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, community agencies, and the general public. 
  2. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  3. Accurate data entry, typing and filing. 
  4. Ability to write and speak effectively. 
  5. Possession of a valid Michigan’s driver’s license.
