Description of Job: The Manager of Accounting is responsible for supervising and training the Senior Accountants during their review of the Property Accountants assigned portfolio of properties. This position will focus on creating internal controls and financial statement accuracy for each entity within the organization, while also creating efficiencies and streamlining monthly processes while managing a team of senior accountants and accountants.

 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervision of Property Accountants and Senior Accountants for the following tasks:
    • Monitor and evaluate all day-to-day accounting activities
    • Establish guidelines for accounting transactions, workflow efficiency, and month-end close process.
    • Streamline and develop efficiencies for bill back and credit card processing
    • Assist with the review of periodic financial reports; ensuring that the reported results comply with GAAP or other financial reporting standards
    • Provide financial analysis with an emphasis on capex (reserves)
    • Oversees preparation and collection of replacement reserves requests
    • Assist with the completion of year end forms 3560-7 & 3560-10 for Rural Development (RD) properties, and all other audit request as needed
    • Assistance with VHDA monthly operating summaries
    • Oversee HAP and Non HAP receipts.
    • Oversee staff training
  • Review and input/upload budgets into external and internal systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve special accounting project issues as needed, working closely with the Assistant Controller and the Controller

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required.
  • Industry: Previous experience in real estate accounting or property accounting required
  • Yardi software experience 
  • Physical Abilities: The physical demands while performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to grasp, pull and hold; reach with hands and arms; and have manual dexterity to manipulate materials and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Employee must converse with others and able to communicate information.
