Description

The Tooling Technician is responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and repairing tooling, jigs, and fixtures used in aerospace manufacturing processes. This role ensures that production teams have the proper tooling to meet quality, efficiency, and safety requirements.

  • Fabricate, assemble, and maintain tooling, jigs, and fixtures for production operations.

  • Work from blueprints, CAD models, engineering drawings, and written/verbal instructions.

  • Modify and repair existing tooling to improve efficiency or extend service life.

  • Ensure tooling conforms to engineering specifications and aerospace quality standards.

  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve tooling-related issues.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) by building prototype tooling as required.

  • Operate machining and hand tools (mills, lathes, grinders, drills, welding, etc.) for tooling fabrication.

  • Maintain safe work practices and comply with company safety standards.

  • Track tooling inventory and manage tooling life cycles.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or trade school certificate preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in tooling, machining, or related aerospace/manufacturing field.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and engineering drawings.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments.

  • Experience with CNC and manual machining equipment (preferred).

  • Knowledge of aerospace quality systems (AS9100, ISO) a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
