ABOUT ISMP
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) is the nation’s first 501c (3) nonprofit organization devoted entirely to preventing medication errors. ISMP is known and respected as the gold standard for medication safety information. For more than 30 years, it also has served as a vital force for progress. ISMP’s advocacy work alone has resulted in numerous necessary changes in clinical practice, public policy, and drug labeling and packaging.
Among its many initiatives, ISMP runs the only national voluntary practitioner medication error reporting program, publishes newsletters with real-time error information read and trusted throughout the global healthcare community, and offers a wide range of unique educational programs, tools, and guidelines.

About MSB
Med Safety Board (MSB) was born in 2021, specifically from medical device, medication-related device, and pharmaceutical manufacturers demand. As an entity powered by both ISMP and ECRI, MSB engages directly with manufacturers of all sizes and at all points along the product lifecycle, from conception to approval to in-market. MSB provides the support necessary to bring safer products to market and assist in enhancing products for safety once in-market.
Leveraging over half a century of evaluation and error experience from both ISMP and ECRI, MSB has exclusive access to a series of device and pharmaceutical error databases, and a team of full-time end-user clinician and human factors engineers as product safety experts. As a result, MSB is uniquely positioned to offer specialized packaged solutions to life science companies.
POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of the ISMP Leadership Team, the Director of MSB, helps to formulate strategic plans and identifies and leads new business opportunities to position the organization in a rapidly evolving and competitive environment.
The Director provides leadership, expertise and oversight to all MSB projects, consultations, educational programs, focus groups and other related activities and services, in support of ISMP’s mission, vision and strategic plan. The Director provides leadership in defining and implementing business and operations processes to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of MSB and ensure on time delivery of all client projects and deliverables.
The Director is a subject matter expert (SME) on medication use processes and safe medication practices and will also participate in execution of client projects and deliverables.
The Director supports the integration and collaboration of services between ISMP/MSB and ECRI for the ultimate benefit of patient safety and towards the strategic mission and vision of both organizations.
The Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining highly productive relationships and partnerships with key professionals, external organizations, and other healthcare stakeholders for the benefit of the organization.

Leadership, oversight and participation in MSB projects, consultations, educational programs, focus group and other related activities and services
- Maintain, expand and continuously improve MSB’s services
- Ensure timely response to inquiries; oversee the establishment of project agenda/objectives, timeline and budget, selection of team members, development and execution of proposals and contracts; ensure timely and effective execution of projects
- Coordinate, lead and participate in engagements as a SME; ensure timely completion of project deliverables and reports
- Assist in marketing, public relations and sales efforts to promote MSB’s services in order to achieve targeted growth rate
- In conjunction with the President, develop annual budgets; manage revenue and expenses in order to meet budget target
