JOB SUMMARY

A Staff Auditor I performs moderately complex work assignments and problem resolution for risk-based assurance and internal control engagements in the field of banking operations, finance, compliance and/or information technology. Performs one or more of the following activities: risk and control identification and evaluation; advanced audit techniques; data retrieval; research; analysis; and management meetings and interviews. Adheres to the Institute of Internal Auditors' Standards and Code of Ethics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The duties listed below may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties, as assigned, including cross training across other departments, as necessary.

  • Completes risk-based activities associated with internal audit engagements, with limited to no supervision in support of execution of the annual audit plan
  • Performs  special reviews, investigations, monitoring activities and work for external auditors and/or regulators, as assigned
  • Ensures engagements are completed objectively, professionally and in accordance with corporate and industry audit standards
  • Utilizes various banking systems, applications and audit tools and may create queries and ad hoc reports
  • Reviews, analyzes and interprets data collected from multiple sources to ensure valid conclusions are drawn
  • Conducts fact-finding interviews with client management
  • Identifies control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the current operating environment and develops recommendations for corrective action
  • Drafts the related observations (issues) and audit reports for issuance to respective bank management and conducts follow-up activities as defined in the observations
  • Participates in job specific training and other various Bank training programs, as necessary
  • Maintains current knowledge of internal risk controls and loss prevention, including reporting of suspicious or unusual customer activity per Bank policy
  • Maintains current knowledge and complies with all federal and state laws and regulations and all established Bank policies and procedures, including internal audit controls related to department operations
  • Maintains current knowledge of all rules, regulations, and laws as they apply to BSA/OFAC/USA Patriot Act/CIP/AML

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • Bachelor's degree or six years of relevant experience in banking or non-banking audit in lieu of a degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls, banking and information technology risks and/or audit techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory banking environment
  • Experience with audit support tools including electronic work papers
  • Exposure to the banking and/or insurance industries
  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to build effective cross-functional relationships with employees of various levels throughout the organization
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively work with both internal and external business partners
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desired

 

ORGANIZATION

  • This position reports to the Senior Auditor
  • This position does not oversee other positions

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

All employees are required to attend scheduled mandatory trainings and complete online regulatory compliance training courses applicable to their specific job function. In all situations, employees must ensure that their actions fully comply with all federal banking laws and regulations, including internal bank policies and procedures. Failure to adhere to these requirements will be grounds for disciplinary action, including probation and possible termination.
