Description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Fleet Manager, the Vehicle/Equipment Service Foreman will be responsible for:

  • Will diagnose, perform repair, preventive maintenance, and service work on various District machines, including but not limited to: Heavy Equipment, Cars, Light-and-Medium-Duty Trucks, Trailers, Gas, Diesel, and L.P. Engines, All Mowers, Tractors, UTVs, Golf Cars, Small Engines, Electric/Hybrid, Powered and Non-powered Vehicles and Equipment.
  • Supports the Equipment Service Technician workload as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with vendors for the acquisition of parts and services. 
  • Responds to breakdowns, emergencies, and after-hours fleet and vehicle breakdowns as required.
  • Supports the Fleet Manager with daily supervision, training, and directing of work for Equipment Service Technician(s), Vehicle/Equipment Service Technician(s), and part-time golf cart technician(s). Acts as the Fleet Manager in their absence.
  • Supports the Fleet Manager with payroll submission process as required.
  • Assists the Fleet Manager with oversight of the stockroom inventory program.
  • Prepares fleet and payroll reports as required.
  • Supports the Fleet Manager with preparation of the annual operating budget and fleet - capital budgets.
  • Utilizes CMM software to record service and repair information.
  • Performs field work as described, including equipment hauling and tow truck operation.
  • Performs repair welding as needed; utilizes oxy/acetylene torch.
  • Facilitates state inspections with PPD vendor for all vehicles as directed.
  • Repairs and replaces tires.  Washes and polishes park vehicles.
  • Keeps work area and shop vehicles clean and orderly.
  • Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed.
  • Supports all aspects of the park district safety program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned:
    • which are reasonably related to the duties described; or
    • which need to be performed promptly to avoid safety hazards or to protect Park District property; or
    • which are not generally described in other job descriptions; or
    • when management determines they are best suited to perform a particular task; or
    • when the amount of work exceeds the availability of Park District employees within the appropriate job classification.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to reach, walk, pull, kneel, squat and bend at the waist and knees.
  • Ability to manipulate tools as needed to complete job duties.
  • Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma is required. An associate’s degree is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years as a Vehicle/Equipment Service Technician.  A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Certifications: Required, current A.S.E. or approved OEM Certifications:

  • A1 or T1 Engine Repair.
  • A4 or T5 Suspension and Steering.
  • A5 or T4 Brakes.
  • A6 or T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems

Knowledge and Ability:

  • 3 years minimum experience with engine, powertrain, electrical, auxiliary hydraulic, vehicle HVAC, air and hydraulic brake system diagnosis and repair.
  • Requires a valid Illinois State Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to read and understand service and operation manuals, and follow written and oral instruction.
  • Must be able to prioritize work in a logical and efficient manner.
  • Must be able to work alone and efficiently with only occasional supervisory contact.
