Position Overview
The Rail Communications Design Engineer will focus on designing complex communications and low voltage systems for major rail infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical role in coordinating and developing structured cabling layouts, telecom room designs, and communication infrastructure to meet project specifications. Working in a hybrid environment based in Seattle, the Engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams under the guidance of a Senior Communications Engineer to create and implement sustainable, resilient designs that support critical rail systems.
Design and Coordination:
- Develop structured cabling and communications infrastructure designs, coordinating with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and security disciplines to meet comprehensive rail project needs.
- Create detailed design documentation, including floor plans, telecom room layouts, rack elevations, pathway layouts, and backbone schematics.
- Prepare and maintain Division 27 & 28 systems specifications, and pathway fill calculations ensuring all designs align with sustainability and resilience objectives.
Project Documentation and Standards Compliance:
- Produce comprehensive drawing packages, incorporating site and floor plans, communication room layouts, equipment rack/cabinet elevations, and pathway fill details.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, codes, and company best practices, prioritizing quality and technical adequacy at every design stage.
- Utilize BIM tools such as Revit and NavisWorks to collaborate with BIM modelers and incorporate all communication systems seamlessly within the larger project infrastructure.
Project Execution and Field Support:
- Conduct site visits and field surveys during project phases to verify design compliance and document progress, ensuring alignment with Triunity’s sustainability and resilience standards.
- Attend project meetings, respond to RFIs, review submittals, and collaborate with internal and external project teams to ensure successful project delivery within timeline and budget constraints.
- Partner closely with the Senior Communications Engineer and project stakeholders from concept through completion to support each project phase.
What You’ll Bring
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Certifications: Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification is preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years of relevant experience in low voltage or communications system design, with expertise in structured cabling, telecom room layouts, and IP-based communications for infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of communications systems design, including structured cabling and communications integration for rail or transportation projects.
- Experience in a BIM design environment and in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

The salary range for this position is between $80k and $110K per annum, based on experience and qualifications.
