PURPOSE:Â
The Engineer will provide process improvement recommendations, project management, and technical support to designated facilities. This position will be involved in the maintaining, upgrading, management of new equipment installation, new process startups, maximizing plant efficiency, plant data collection, identifying and correcting process deficiencies, and assisting with regulatory compliance. The position is assigned capital and maintenance engineering projects, plant improvement projects, along with being directly involved in essential plant activities such as safety, pollution abatement, training and other plant programs.Â

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strive for excellence in all work by focusing on continuous improvement, consistent work practices, and working with other co-workers for the betterment of the company while doing everything well with minimal errors or defects to ensure customer satisfaction and quality standards
- Developing, submitting, implementing and completing capital and maintenance projects as assigned on a timely basis and within budget
- Create and edit batch sheets
- Updating and maintaining P&ID’s, equipment drawings and process data
- Collaborating with other engineers, as well as other company staff, to share and implement best practices, and to raise the overall standards of the business
- Monitoring and evaluating process performance and reliability
- Providing technical evaluations on the status of the plant to management and operations
- Providing technical information to the engineering and maintenance functions as requested
- Initiating plant investigations related to proposed changes in the plant process
- On-call duties and/or off shift work may be required
- Providing problems solving and support to facility operations
- May be assigned environmental and safety responsibilities as needed
- Assist with process hazard analysis
- Immediately reporting all EH&S incidents (injuries, near misses, releases)
- Complete all required EH&S training in a timely fashion
- All other duties assigned based on the needs of the business

JOB REQUIREMENTS:Â
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineer (experience dependent).
- Minimum 1-3 years of chemical plant experience. New graduates may be considered depending on their relevant experience.
- Demonstrates values of honesty and integrity, respect for others, teamwork and collaboration, accountability and performance
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills capable of working with contractors, customers, operators, regulatory personnel
- Proven organizational, technical, quality, and safety skills relate to the operations and maintenance of facilities

- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Able to lead cross-functional teams to resolve issues
- Autonomous and a self-starter capable of independent action and decision-making based on sound data collection and analysis
- Track record of meeting deadlines, working independently, and practicing good organizational skills
- Working knowledge of Process Safety Management preferred, but not required
- Become familiar and follow all company Environmental, Health Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures
- PC and software skills
- Capable of working in a multiple story chemical plant

PREFERRED:
- 5 – 7 years chemical plant experience with demonstrated experience/leadership in: Capital project management, chemical plant operation, chemical plant optimization/improvement

EXTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Interaction with visitors, clients, suppliers and contractors and regulatory agencies

INTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Regular interaction with other departments, including but not limited to QA, Maintenance, R&D, Engineering, Shipping/Receiving, Supply Chain, and HR

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USE:Â
- Occasional standing, sitting, stooping, walking, climbing
- Use of general office equipment, computer keyboard, printer, copier
- Frequent speaking and hearing

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Office and chemical plant environment
- Frequent fumes and airborne particles, toxic and caustic chemicals
- Moderate to loud noise level (computers, printers, plant equipment, and machinery)
