JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the IDD Provider Services Manager, performs routine (journey-level) work in the residential programs. Will be assigned to a group of homes.  Work involves developing and maintaining long-term contact with clients, client families, and service providers for medical, social, educational, and related service needs.  Will train others.  Works with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment; ensures services provided by direct care staff are carried out according to program rules and regulations.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Monitors day to day operations of provider programs by overseeing direct care staff in the assigned group homes and reports concerns to IDD Provider Services Manager.  Oversees staff schedules, provides coverage, and participates in on-call. Creates and conducts new hire and in-service training with staff.  Assists the manager in the hiring process. Conducts on-site inspections to verify homes are being maintained in accordance to program standards and that safety measures are being followed.  Conducts fire/disaster drills as required.  Responsible of inventory and shopping of all supplies and groceries. Provide a list of items for requisitions and maintenance tickets to the manager. Fills in as necessary in transporting clients to appointments. Ensures vehicles receive maintenance and service as scheduled and necessary. Participates as a member of the IDT.  Provides census tracking sheet to manager monthly.

 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities to include: clients rights; abuse and neglect; first aid and CPR; principles of normalization; rights, roles and responsibilities of the family and guardian; methods of teaching; writing implementation plans and other required training.  Knowledge of ICF principles and guidelines.  Ability to assess client needs and develop programs based on identified needs.  Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with other staff and clients.  Ability to maintain accurate records.  Knowledge of community resources available to the population with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Ability to coordinate and participate in-service planning.  Ability to accurately evaluate subordinates.  Ability to work independently, organize work, prioritize needs of clients and agency.  Capacity for flexibility in dealing with ongoing changes within the human service delivery system.  Ability to function independently, as well as, asking for guidance as needed, and the ability to know the difference.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:           High school diploma AND a minimum of two years full time work experience in a social, behavioral or human services or related field OR Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major specialization in social behavior or human services or related fields

Experience:          Experience in field of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities or human services

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

A valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record is required along with a copy of a valid auto insurance card.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, lift 25 pounds, sit for an extended period, and reach overhead.
