The Mortgage Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and analysis of mortgage loan activities, payments, and balances, serving as a liaison between the Accounting and Mortgage departments.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Records and reconciles mortgage loan transactions including funding, servicing, payoffs, and adjustments, ensuring compliance with accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
- Monitors escrow accounts, ensuring accurate accounting for taxes, insurance, and interest payments.
- Performs variance analysis and provides explanations to leadership teams as applicable.
- Participates in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements and reports related to mortgage operations.
- Works closely with loan officers, underwriters, and external auditors to provide support and documentation.
- Maintains documentation and records in accordance with company policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Assists in improving processes and systems for mortgage accounting accuracy and efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
