Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Respond quickly and efficiently to teacher requests in the work environment
  • Escort students to Time Out room and bathroom breaks.
  • If desired by teacher, take up to two classes during the school day.
  • Responsible for lunch and breakfast.
  • Remove students from the classroom that need one-on-one assistance academically or behavior support.
  • Co-teach with teacher.
  • Remain in assigned classroom unless otherwise directed by teacher.
  • Participate in lessons.
  • Grade student’s assignments.
  • Keep track of student work and academic functioning level.
  • Provide support to students to keep them on track while in the classroom.
  • Work one-on-one with students while in the class.
  • Rotate around room to ensure all students are on track.
  • Provide crisis intervention in the classroom as an alternate to using Time Out.
  • Implement social skills while interacting with students.
  • Keep in close communication with teacher about student issues.
  • Maintain student point sheet.
  • Any and all other reasonable request by the classroom teacher.

 

Behavior Management/Safety

  • Rules/Level System Implementation
  • Incident Reporting/Documentation (within 2 hours of incident & before the end of day)
  • Student Processing (within 20 minutes of call to stabilization)
  • Assistance Team Participation as assigned

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Paper grading
  • Copying
  • Behavior Management (Point Sheets)
  • Substitute Teaching
  • Read 180 Implementation as assigned by Supervising Teacher
  • One-on-one & Small Group Tutoring as assigned by Supervising Teacher
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervising Teacher

 

Building-Wide Responsibilities

  • Supervision/Duties as assigned

 

Professional Development, Training, & Evaluation

  • Participate in all PD & Training
  • Participate in the Evaluation Process

 

Special Events/Activities

  • Participation in all Special Events and Activities as assigned

 

Teacher Assistants are responsible for these and other assigned tasks. Policies and procedures for which they are responsible should be carefully documented, approved by the Director of Education, and posted/distributed as appropriate.

Teacher Assistants should not take breaks in the staff/stabilization area after 2:00 or in congregations at any time. TA’s will be asked to clock out if they are in the stabilization area or staff room after school, unless they are working on a specific, school-related task.

Hours are from 7:00-3:00

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Sixty (60) hours of college credit.

 

Assist teachers in classroom dynamics, lessons and preparation as instructed.
