Carpenter Helper

JOB SUMMARY:

The Carpenter’s Helper assists in all aspects of the Carpenter’s duties including cleaning and maintaining the carpenter shop and tools, assisting with repair work and new construction, and other duties associated with basic carpentry skills throughout the site. Takes directions given by the Lead Carpenter. May require some weekends, late nights, and early mornings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with and learn to keep shop clean and safe
  • Assist with and learn to perform basic carpentry skills
  • Assist with and learn to use various shop tools and hardware, measure lengths and quantities, and assess needs for repair work or new construction
  • Assist with and learn to finish surfaces and edges to a professional quality
  • Assist with and learn other construction tools and materials as needed
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, or use a lift to reach heights up to 30 feet
  • Work in tight spaces and awkward positions
  • Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Must be reliable and responsible
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work outside in weather extremes including high temperatures during a Texas summer
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping and kneeling
  • Ability to push and pull objects of materials weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, working at heights up to approximately 30 feet for extended periods of time, with the ability to reach, often times overhead
  • Ability to grasp, lift, or carry items weighing up to 50 lbs, occasionally waist high
