Position Summary:

As a Truss Designer at Nisbet Brower, you will be responsible for creating accurate and structurally sound roof and floor truss designs that align with customer specifications, building codes, and engineering standards. You’ll collaborate closely with Sales, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure each truss package is both cost-effective and optimized for efficient manufacturing and installation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design wood truss systems using Mitek or similar software based on architectural and structural plans.
  • Interpret and apply engineering specifications, building codes, and jobsite requirements.
  • Communicate with customers, sales reps, and builders to gather project requirements and clarify design details.
  • Ensure designs are accurate, structurally sound, and compliant with local, state, and national codes.
  • Generate production-ready layouts, shop drawings, and material lists for manufacturing.
  • Work collaboratively with the Truss Production Team to resolve design-related issues and improve efficiency.
  • Assist in troubleshooting construction issues related to truss design.
  • Keep organized records of designs, revisions, and communications for each project.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, software updates, and code changes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in truss design or related field.
  • Proficiency in MiTek software (or similar truss design systems).
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, structural loads, and building codes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree or technical training in construction technology, drafting, or engineering.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, or other design tools.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing or building supply environment.
 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional visits to the manufacturing plant or job sites.
  • Standard business hours with occasional need for extended hours based on project load.
