Purpose of Position/Summary:

The Metal Finishing Engineer is responsible for assuring metal finishing processes such as paint and plating meet all quality specifications. This position is responsible for ensuring that painting and plating processes are within the correct tolerances for chemistries. This position works with the Metal Finishing Supervisor to ensure all processes achieve company goals for quality at the most efficient cost.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and improve hard chrome plating and painting operations;
• Oversee chemical inventories;
• Plan production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products, utilizing knowledge of production processes and methods, machine and equipment capabilities and staffing requirements;
• Ensure processes are operating at optimum and maintained to achieve production targets for QCD;
• Supervise special projects as assigned to enhance associate productivity and functionality of equipment and processes;
• Support Maintenance staff in equipment upgrades and repairs as needed;
• Implement safety and good housekeeping standards;
• Keep Management informed of developments as they occur;
• Maintain compliance with relevant regulatory requirements;
• Ability to work various shifts including nights and weekends as needed;
• Domestic and international travel is on an as needed basis;
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

 

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, or appropriate related technical discipline, is required from an accredited institution.  4-6 years of related experience may substitute for a college diploma.  One year of experience in a Chemical Engineering role in a manufacturing environment is preferred.  Experience in Safety and environmental certification is strongly preferred.  ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and/or automotive-related internal auditing skills, as well as laboratory and waste water treatment experience is a plus.  This position also requires the ability to work in a cross-functional, fast paced environment, and manage multiple activities simultaneously.  Microsoft skillset is required.  This position requires the ability to identify and resolve issues without direct supervision.  Excellent analytical, negotiation, project management, organization, and problem solving skills are required.  Excellent communication, both written and verbal, skills required. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

 

This position does not have any subordinate associates reporting to it.

 

Difficulty of Work:

 

This position requires the ability to understand and comply with all safety and environmental policies.  Processes and procedures are well defined and must be followed.  The ability to adapt in constantly changing situations is a must.  Task and support responsibilities change daily.  The ability to manage time effectively and multitask is also important. 

 

Responsibility:

 

This position will have a lot of autonomy while working within the Production Engineering Department.  Detailed responsibilities are listed above.

 

Personal Work Relationships:

 

Almost all of the assignments require working with multiple departments and divisions within KYB in addition to outside consultants or firms.  Personal work relationships would include:  KYB and other subsidiaries to obtain and summarize information; KYB Production Engineering Team; other KYB associates; KYB Management; KYB customers; KYB suppliers.  The nature of the work could impact every department inside KYB and could impact KYB customers. 

 

Physical Effort:

 

Infrequently, this position requires the ability to be on feet for long periods of time.  Bending, kneeling, and squatting are required to perform tasks.  This position requires the ability to lift up to 28 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Working conditions are normal for an office or production environment.  At times, associate may be called on to perform tasks that require additional PPE other than the mandatory standard PPE as safety glasses, hearing protection and safety toe shoes.  Special attention to work environment and areas surrounding the equipment is critical.
