FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Lower School Academic Dean

Employment Status: Part time - 27.5 hours per week, days and times to be determined | 10 months

Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) is a Christian, interdenominational, co-educational, day school nestled on 55+ acres at the foot of Lookout Mountain. CCS has been serving Christian families in the Chattanooga area since 1970 and currently enrolls 1,450+ students in the Lower School (Preschool -5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12). POSITION OVERVIEW:

Assists in implementing academic lesson plans for students in grades 3-5 at CCS. Works with Academic Dean and Director of Exceptional Education to help support all students in a variety of inclusive academic settings. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Works with students in grades 3-5 enrolled at CCS across grade level content areas (reading, writing, math, science, social studies, Bible).
  2. Thinks creatively about ways to provide enrichment and growth beyond the grade-level curriculum. 
  3. Works well as part of a grade-level team. 
  4. Maintains confidentiality of all students at CCS.
  5. Provides one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce concepts taught by the lead teacher.
  6. Assists with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  7. Prepares and organizes instructional materials and resources.
  8. Participates in professional development opportunities as required.
  9. Provides feedback to the lead teacher regarding student progress and behavior.
  10. Collaborates with specialists, such as interventionists, therapists, counselors, and other support staff to support student needs.
  11. Works in classrooms to ensure accommodations and modifications are provided for eligible students.
  12. Communicates clearly through speaking and writing
  13. Is comfortable using a variety of technology
  14. Other job duties as assigned by the LS Academic Dean.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of Chattanooga Christian School.
  • Experience working in an elementary school, with previous teaching experience preferred. 
  • Experience working with diverse student groups.
  • Character, call, and availability to fulfill the needs of the job description.
  • Highly motivated, willing to take initiative, and able to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and professionalism in confidential and sensitive student matters.
  • A comprehensive background check is required of all persons working at CCS.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This is a role that requires equal amounts of standing/walking and sitting at a desk for the majority of the school day.
  • The employee may need to physically support students with physical disabilities and should have no health issues which would prevent assisting a student getting in and out of a chair or wheelchair.
