Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring reliable operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of production equipment, utilities, and facility systems at Tofurky’s Hood River manufacturing plant. This role supports production efficiency, food safety, and employee safety by performing troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs in accordance with company policies and Oregon state safety and labor regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and repair of food manufacturing machinery, packaging equipment, conveyors, refrigeration systems, boilers, compressors, and facility infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues to minimize downtime.
- Document maintenance work performed, parts used, and PM compliance in maintenance software or work orders.
- Support installation, testing, and validation of new or modified equipment.
- Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to ensure safe and efficient equipment operation and changeovers.
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and follow all 5S principles.
- Adhere to OSHA, Oregon BOLI, and company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout, PPE use, and confined-space entry procedures.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts to enhance equipment reliability.
- Assist in emergency repairs or facility maintenance projects as needed.
- Support sustainability initiatives by minimizing energy use, water consumption, and waste.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational certification in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in food manufacturing or similar production environment.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Familiarity with CMMS or digital work order systems preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and teamwork orientation.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, weekends, or on-call rotations as required.

Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, and work in hot, cold, or wet conditions.
- Comfortable working in wet, noisy, or varied temperature environments.
- Ability to use ladders, work in tight spaces, and move equipment as needed.
- This position is performed in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
- Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
