Description

Diagnose, triage, and provide sample psychotropic medications as well as prescriptions for necessary Psychotropic medications. Monitor medications for patient population with medical and behavioral health problems. Provide brief intervention strategies and develop treatment plans for patients. Collaborate and consult with medical providers, mental health staff, and other collaborative partners to ensure effective treatment for patients with behavioral health.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Consistently performs specific assigned daily and general duties; meets deadlines.

  • Knows and consistently implements the organization's mission and all approved policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Regularly supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, FQHC, HIPAA and Behavioral Healthcare Network.       
  • Consistently interacts with clients and staff in a manner that reflects favorably on the organization and promotes teamwork.
  • Keeps all expirable documents up to date with HR as applicable e.g. CPR cards, immunizations, personnel update, etc.)

SPECIFIC DUTIES: (The first five are Core Competencies)

  • Assist primary health care providers in diagnosing and treating behavioral health and psychological issues.
  • Conduct Psychiatric Evaluations and define the most effective out-patient treatment plan for the client within scope of practice.
  • Make essential referrals for supportive services to effectively support the client’s stabilization.
  • Prescribe, follow-up and monitor effectiveness and side-effects of prescribed psychotropic medications with select patients.
  • Provide diagnostic consultation to primary care provider team.
  • Collaborate with primary care medical providers and mental health staff in the design and delivery of patient care.
  • Participate in the agency’s 340B Pharmaceutical program for best outcomes to the patient and the program.
  • See patients during "scheduled" visits for new and established patients.
  • Assist patients, and families as appropriate, to interpret and manage maladaptive behaviors and to plan healthy lifestyle changes. Work with patients to improve adherence to medical recommendations and medication compliance.
  • Participates in the clinical guidance of nursing and mental health providers as well as support staff.
  • Conducts in-service trainings on common behavioral health issues for medical practitioners and behavioral health providers as required.
  • Completes required statistical and billing documentation for billing, grant reporting and quality improvement purposes.
  • Exercise balanced judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions, and handle difficult or confrontational situations in calm and consistent manner.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

  • The physical activity of this position may include: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting.
  • Medium work, Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

HAZARDS OF POSITION:

  • The worker is exposed to infectious diseases.
  • The worker is exposed to unpredictable behavior.
  • TB testing - high risk
  • Hepatitis B testing - high risk

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner possessing unrestricted license for practice in the state of Utah.
  • Three years’ work experience and specialized training in the mental health field preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine and treatment for mental health conditions.
  • Person is certified in delivering MAT services or is willing to learn and deliver MAT services on a limited basis."
  • Ability to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions and develop appropriate management/treatment plans.
  • Organized, creative, flexible, open-minded and able to multi-task.
  • Able to work effectively as a team, interfacing with patients, primary care providers, mental health staff, as well as administrative and support staff.
  • No evidence of immoral or unethical behavior. Agree to background check.
  • Experience collaborating with medical and mental health providers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software programs.
