Distinguishing Characteristics:

Under general supervision and direction, the Senior Marketing Specialist exercises independent judgment to execute marketing projects, produce advertising assets and campaigns, and generate marketing and communications deliverables.  They assist in the administration of external stakeholder and media relations programs and platforms to promote and maximize all aspects of the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) business, operations and economic development opportunities at both Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN); effectively manage external relations and the public image of the TAA and its airports to internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of TAA.

  • Support and advocate for TAA’s Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles and act as a champion and role-model of TAA’s Cultural Fundamentals.
  • In conjunction with outside vendors, create content for use in all aspects of the TAA advertising program.
  • Execute delivery of marketing content to the appropriate channels for use.
  • Assist in the execution of deliverables related to key business partnerships in the local community.
  • Manage the customer-facing content of the TAA website.
  • Execute promotions designed to increase usage of TUS.
  • Provide assistance in executing other public-facing projects at TUS that involve the TAA brand image.
  • Monitor, respond, and generate content for the TAA’s social media channels.
  • Write, edit, garner approval for, and appropriately disseminate information about TAA, TUS, and RYN to a variety of audiences across multiple platforms, to include news releases, social media, media relations, newsletters, memos, presentations, and public speaking engagements.
  • Write public-facing newsletters and communications to the TAA Board of Directors and Membership.
  • Model the organization’s Guiding Principles and Cultural Fundamentals by demonstrating high performance and exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders, especially while representing the TAA, TUS, or RYN at luncheons, trade shows, industry conferences, and community events.
  • Act as one of TAA’s Public Information Officers during daily operations and when designated in response to an emergency incident or event; provide accurate and timely information; interface with the media and public information officers from outside agencies in the event of an airport emergency.
  • Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations that may involve loss of human life or property; support public safety and operational response to emergencies; utilize Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency debriefing with appropriate departments and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Position Requirements: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or other closely related fields.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience in marketing, media, or public relations. 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, as well as supporting tracking applications (web-based tools).
  • General understanding of branding and maintaining brand standards.
  • Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Email marketing software.
  • Principles of business management, airport management, and administration preferred.
  • A variety of practices and procedures, including, but not limited to Federal, State, County and City laws, FAR Part 139 (airport certification/regulations), TSA 1542 (airport security regulations), and other regulations governing the operation of the TAA airports.

Environmental Requirements

  • Work primarily in a typical, temperature controlled administrative office setting in a semi-enclosed workspace.
  • Be outdoors for periods of time year-round to visit various airport facilities.
  • At times, work in a high-noise environment and extreme weather.

  • Initiate and organize responsibilities without observant supervision; take independent action relative to emergency operations and work problems requiring immediate solutions. 
  • Interpret and analyze complex technical data and information for decision-making and reporting purposes.
  • Research information and organize data in meaningful form, make sound judgments, draw accurate conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.

Physical Requirements

  • Communicate in English via telephone, radio, and cellular telephone, (at times) in a high noise environment, with sufficient clarity to be understood by others.
  • Read, write, and speak the English language in an articulate, fluent manner.
  • Hear and understand sounds coming through a radio, a standard telephone receiver, or other outside sound sources.

General

  • Be able to work special hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, and be available to be on call 24 hours/7 days per week to respond to the airport in the event of an emergency.
  • Operate a computer, and any other computer software appropriate for the assigned position.
  • Understand that dissemination of information outside of job requirements is based on "need-to-know" and to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of job functions.
  • Be of assistance and serve as a resource for the general public, media, and members of the airport industry.
  • Be sensitive and aware of actions and reactions of employees, tenants, Board and Authority members, consultants, the public and outside agencies, and inform supervisor of appropriate concerns.
  • Perform cross training within the work environment.
  • Continually learn and apply the latest up-to-date technical knowledge and skills in the functional area of responsibility. Strive to become an expert in the field by taking initiative for on-the-job learning experiences, as well as seeking out formal education and coursework for continuous growth and development.
  • Understand your own strengths and weaknesses, seek input from supervisor and peers about how to improve, and focus on continuous self-improvement activities.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

  • Valid Arizona Driver’s license.
  • Must obtain and maintain access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
  • Must successfully complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 course requirements and certification within the first year of assuming the position.
  • As an employee, you are deemed to be essential personnel as part of TAA’s emergency response and must respond to airport incidents as requested/required.
