Description

CFH is seeking a Director of Security which operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Regularly update security policies or procedures, to include evacuation plans, security operations manuals, security training manuals, disaster recovery, and contingency plans with consideration to current and emerging risks to residents, staff and assets.
  • Establish procedural documentation and ensure that the physical security program is continually aligned with the Shelter’s strategic security plan to mitigate risks and support business operations.
  • Manage and direct all security staff and ensure that they are appropriately trained and informed on the most recent security plans, threats, trends and related security techniques. Implement regular assessments and drills on physical security systems, procedures and processes.
  • Manage a 24/7 security operations and be available to respond to after hour calls or emails for physical security related issues, emergencies and/or breaches. Must solve all security complaints in a timely manner.
  • Manage the implementation, service, repair and/or updates of security technology projects such as video surveillance, access control systems, security platforms, alarm systems, two-way communications, travel safety platforms and other security equipment.
  • Research, recommend, and deploy effective and innovative security management techniques and solutions to secure and safeguard shelter offices.
  • Continually look for opportunities to leverage technology to streamline processes and improve security, while working in close partnership with IT department.
  • Conduct physical security site risk assessments of all offices and property to identify vulnerabilities and develop risk mitigation strategies, while partnering with the Shelter Director and COO.
  • Provide comprehensive and accurate reports to properly document and communicate results of security reviews and audits.
  • Initiate continuous improvement activities to ensure quality and cost-effective physical security services.
  • Assist with CFH special events by conducting security advances, preparing site assessments and security planning.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of security training and awareness programs.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with local and federal law enforcement and Department of Homeless Services (DHS) to stay apprised of guidelines, policies, emerging threats, tactics and techniques.
  • Perform other security related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL / TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA Degree preferred
  • 7- 10 years of security experience in a social service setting, with a local or federal law enforcement agency, or equivalent. A combination of this is preferred.
  • 5 years of security management experience.
  • Significant knowledge of relevant security policies, standards, guidelines, and processes to include; HR, Fire & Life Safety, protection and security operations.
  • Must have Fire Safety and F-80 certification. 
  • Working knowledge of processes related to security such as: physical and technical security systems technology, threat vulnerability, site assessments, emergency response and crisis management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Docs, and Gmail.
